Post & Rail Fence Building

I know.... this is not about sewing but...... Who knew how crafty my beautiful husband Mr D could be... and I wanted to share with you..........

He decided a couple of weeks ago to rebuild the fence to the rear of our yard.... We live on seven wonderful acres and have been over the last few years... upgrading and improving our piece of paradise....So Mr D decided to take the plunge.....

Using his trusty chainsaw.... and no loss of limbs thank goodness.... only hurting his back.... bugger

......he built a great post and rail fence.... TADAH......

Whales @ Caseys Beach

I know.... it is not craft or sewing..... but sometimes you need a gentle reminder.... or shove as I sometimes need to remember to smell the roses..

Or in this case, yesterday there was a whale about 100 metres off one of our local beaches at Batemans Bay... You have got to love nature.....

Thought I would share the pics with you.....

St Peters Anglican School Kimono Ring Workshop

What started out as to be show and tell for some textile students at St Peters........ to help out my hockey friend Karen.... I ended up teaching the girls how to make rings out of vintage kimono silk.

The year 9 and 10 girls are currently desigining projects with an Asain theme and I had designed (but not published yet) an asain theme quilt... my friend Karen asked me to come and give her textile students some tips and tricks for applique and some how to information.

On preparing for the lesson I thought I would bring the ring findings, fabric etc to make the kimono rings... knowing they would not take long to make....... and we all like to, at times, have a quick finishing project.....  I have posted a blog about these... they were great to make....

Well the girls loved them....... I was very chuffed.... AND tadah..... here are what the girls made for their class..... I think they were a bit happy....

And they did a great job!!!

I just loved sharing the knowledge with them...

I will be returning to their class in a couple of weeks to help them with their Asain projects...  woo hoo....

Quilters Block Swap No.2

For my swap this month I made a maple leaf block for Cathy from Canada......

I used a batik fabric in red and it just happens to have, what looks like little booerangs all over it.... which I thought was pretty cool, since it was going overseas to Canada..... I hope she likes it.....

anywho.... cheers Janeene

Kaffe Fassett Fabrics - I Love them!!

What is it about Kaffe Fassett that I love...... it must be the colours and how they are used without the normal colour guidelines..... You know blue and green must never be seen without a colour in between!! The Kaffe Fassett web site is fantastic .....

I have made (or nearly made) quite a few things using his fabrics.

I have been making a quilt for Miss J and really all I have to do is put a border on it and then quilt it.... That is on my to do list..... This was from a workshop I went to that Sheena Chapman taught at.....Sheena teaches in a very freestyle way.... so there is no right or wrong.... She has a great eye for colour....

I have even made Bunting to match..... This is one of my own patterns.... I  made it to match Miss J's almost finished quilt.... She is waiting very patiently for it...

I also used his fabrics in the yellow range to make the background for a needle turned applique wall hanging a made from a Sarah Fielke workshop from her book "Quilting from little things"..... I have never been a great hand sewer but the workshop was invaluable.... and since then I started making a Hawaiian block also using needle turn applique..... I hope i am like most quilters/crafters with lots of UFO's... he he
Finally....... I used his range to make this lampshade..... also from a workshop I attended at MyPatch Fabrics, in Milton NSW... I do love this..... These colours are possibly my all time favourite... at the moment anyway.....
I hope you have also noticed;
1) my new Iphone app camera +... thought I would play around with the frames for my pics and
2) I enjoy attending workshops run by other people...... I am, and hope you are always willing to learn something new......

anywho.... cheers Janeene
