Mini Flower Pin Cushion FREE Tutorial

On a trip to America last year I cam across a cute little pin cushion at the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky. The quilts were also Amazing!!

Anywho......, as you would know I always make presents for my sewing friends and I made some of these super cute pin cushions. They are used as a little travelling pin cushion and fit in the top of your cotton reel..... I just love them!

Whilst working with my good friend Val and her shop My Patch Fabrics, at the Rosehill Stitches and Craft Show last week I also taught these at make and take classes. The ladies had so much fun making them... and let me tell you every person I had in the classes (about 50 people all up) finished their project in a 1 hour class. Val also has some great little kits for sale.

So click on the link for my FREE tutorial for the pin cushions. Spread the love and give them to your beautiful sewing friends.

Quiltmania Projects - My Owl Love Quilt and My Kimono Blossom Quilt

I have been very busy over the last couple of months trying to finish projects and of  I was very lucky to be requested to design two quilts for the Quiltmania Kids Issue 2015.

I met the girls at Houston Quilt Market in October 2014 and they requested two quilts with inspiration from My Owl Quilt and My Kimono Girls Quilt. Okay so I was very excited and then I realised I had to get my act together and design and complete two quilts to be sent to France. (yep... that's right)

So keep a look out for the magazine... I am very happy with my design.... here is a sneak peak... Hope you like them!

Happy Sewing,
Janeene

My two owl's in My Owl Love quilt were made from the Cotton + Steel Basics range..... I just love the brightness.

My kimono girl in My Kimono Blossom Quilt was made from the Amy Butler Hapi range.

Back to School - Here's a great FREE folder cover tutorial

I have made a number of these folder covers for sorting different items. I made a set for my patterns; my address book and when I went to Houston Quilt Market last year for my Portfolio.

They are super easy, you can make them for any size folder and you can use scraps. They would be great for covering your folders for going back to school. Click here to go to my website so you can get the FREE tutorial.

Angela Walters - Free-Motion Quilting

I am always trying to learn new things and also improve the things I do..... Yes as with lots of people my quilting is one of them.

I do love Angela Walters' books.... They obviously have great information but they are also easy to read with lots of tips and tricks. (I was also lucky enough to meet her at Houston Quilt Market... He he)

Her free motion quilting book is a great beginners guide or for people who are trying to improve their quilting skills.

Their is lots of info about the products and tools you need to use.

Angela puts in great tips. For example as above.... Use a Magna Doodle for practising your quilting designs!

Angela references her designs in numbered steps which makes them easy to follow. I don't know about you but I always write notes in my books, about where I used designs. It makes it a great reference for me.

There are also some great patterns she has also designed.

So if your in need for a reference book of ideas and how to.. Then this would be a great book for you.

Easy and yum - Portuguese Custard Tarts

These are my brothers favourite. If we are catching up... Then this is what he requests for me to bring... And always two batches. He he. Hope you like them too!

3 egg yolks
1/4 cup caster sugar
3/4 cup carton cream
1/2 cup water
Strip of lemon rind
2 teaspoons vanilla essence
1 sheet ready rolled butter puff pastry

Preheat the oven to hot (220 degrees C)
Grease a 12 hole (1/3 cup capacity) muffin pan
Place the egg yolks, sugar and cornflour in a medium saucepan and whisk them until combined.

Gradually whisk in the cream and water until smooth.

Add the lemon rind and stir over medium heat until the mixture jut comes to the boil.

Remove from the heat immediately then remove the rind and stir in the vanilla essence.

Cut the pastry sheet in half.
Remove the plastic and stack the two halves on top of each other.
Stand for about 5 minutes or until thawed.
Roll the pastry up tightly from the short side.

Cut the log into 12 x 1cm rounds.

Lay the pastry, cut side up, on a lightly floured board and roll each round out to about 10cm.

Press the rounds into the prepared muffin pans with your fingers.

Spoon the custard into the pastry cases.

Bake the tarts in a hot oven for about 20 minutes or until well browned.
Transfer them to a wire rack to cool.

Makes 12.... Enjoy! They are delicious
